W&H Properties Retains Amira Yunis, Prominent Retail Broker at Newmark Knight Frank, For One Grand Central Place and 1400 Broadway

November 03, 2009

NEW YORK CITY - Amira Yunis, executive vice president and principal of the Newmark Knight Frank national retail group, has been retained to head retail leasing for two W&H buildings that are already currently managed and leased by Newmark Knight Frank: One Grand Central Place and 1400 Broadway.

Since joining Newmark Knight Frank in 2000, Ms. Yunis has spearheaded some of the nation's most distinguished retail transactions, from procuring flagship deals and executing national roll-outs to introducing new retailers to the market, notes Fred C. Posniak, senior vice president of W&H Properties.

In 2006 she received the coveted Retail Deal of the Year award from the Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY).

"Amira has an outstanding reputation that reaches far beyond New York City," says Mr. Posniak. "Both One Grand Central Place and 1400 Broadway have been recently transformed and repositioned, so it's a perfect time to bring Amira on board."

In her new role, Ms. Yunis will focus on marketing a two-level, 8,100-square-foot retail space at One Grand Central Place (301 Madison Avenue) that is adjacent to both the elegant new restaurant Pera, as well as an exciting new retail opportunity to be marketed in early 2010. She also will oversee leasing of two retail spaces - ranging from 1,131 to 3,691 square feet - at 1400 Broadway, a property that is solidifying its reputation as the Complete Fashion Environment.

Over the years, many landlords have come to rely on Ms. Yunis. One of her most notable achievements was the repositioning of 575 Madison Avenue, now one of the world's premier retail corners. The space, formerly a bank, now houses the flagships for Geox USA, Honora and Destination Maternity, and sparked the retail leasing of East 57th Street and Madison Avenue south of 57th Street. She also completed the highly publicized leasing of the retail space at the world-famous Scribner Building for Sephora's Fifth Avenue flagship store.

Ms. Yunis received REBNY's coveted Retail Deal of the Year award for her role in leasing Trader Joe's first Manhattan location on 14th Street. This ingenious deal resulted from Ms. Yunis's creative marketing efforts to persuade Trader Joe's of the value of a location on a portion of East 14th Street that had immense unrealized retail potential.

As an owner representative, Ms. Yunis has worked on many well-known properties in Manhattan, owned by some of the city's most high-profile landlords and developers, including Extell Development, SL Green, Goldman Sachs, Steinberg & Pokoik, APF Properties, DVL Incorporated, Rudin Management, Emmes, New York University, Advance Realty and Archon Group.

Ms. Yunis is a member of the Real Estate Board of New York, the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and the REBNY Retail Committee.

The W&H Properties Pre-War Trophy office portfolio includes the Empire State Building, 112 West 34th Street, 501 Seventh Avenue, 1333 Broadway, 1350 Broadway, 1359 Broadway, 1400 Broadway, One Grand Central Place, and 250 West 57th Street.
